An hour later, Tyler was marveling at the little ball of boundless energy that was leading him into one store after another. Brianna could have been the ad for an energy drink – she was bouncy, lively and looked as though she wanted to buy the whole of downtown Vancouver and take it home with her. Tyler realized that not only did she want him around so she could flirt with him, she wanted an extra set of hands to carry all the bags she would surely be bringing back to the hotel after this little excursion was over.

They had been surprisingly ignored all morning, which suited Tyler just fine. Vancouver was a hub of movie-making activity, and the fact that movie stars were the norm made Tyler feel like anyone else in the city – just someone out to shop in some of the fancier stores and maybe pick up a bauble or two.

He did catch a few looks from those in the shops, as though they were trying to figure out who he was. One woman knew very well who he was, but she simply smiled and said, “Great job on the movie” as she walked out the door with her own packages in hand. Tyler smiled at that – it was the kind of fan interaction he really loved. She was gone before he could thank her, though.

It wasn’t until lunchtime that he realized they were being followed. They sat in the back corner of a small café, where they were pretty sure they wouldn’t be disturbed. Brianna was telling him all about her sister when a man stepped into the café, looked around, spotted them, and then turned around and walked right back out. Tyler watched as the man stopped on the sidewalk, motioned to someone across the street, and then climbed into his car. He sat there, looking at the front of the café.

He was waiting for them to come out. So was the person across the street.

Tyler knew they would both have cameras. In fact, they had probably followed them through all the shopping, tipped off by someone who saw the famous movie star and his lovely leading lady. He suddenly knew that there would be pictures of them that looked as though they were having a wonderful time, flirting with each other, teasing, looking longingly into each other’s eyes.

Those pictures would be carefully culled by the editors of tabloid magazines. They would them be splashed across the pages and the internet, where speculation would be allowed to run wild. Certain sources would then tell them stories about how Tyler and Brianna held hands, or kissed, and the tabloids would run the stories without an ounce of confirmation.

Romano would see it all.

Tyler felt sick to his stomach as she stared out the window at the man in the car. Brianna finally noticed his quiet attitude and furrowed her pretty brow at him. “What’s wrong?”

“The paps are following us.”

Brianna stared at him for one moment too long, and Tyler’s heart started to pound.
